Who Is Kevin?

我wǒ的de中Zhōng国guó朋péng友you叫jiàoKevin …… 我wǒ叫jiào“ 包bāo子zi”？ 

My Chinese friend is called Kevin... and I'm called "Baozi"?

我wǒ叫jiàoMike ， 我wǒ在zài中Zhōng国guó学xué汉Hàn语yǔ。 

My name is Mike. I'm studying Chinese in China.

他tā是shì小Xiǎo王Wáng， 在zài电diàn脑nǎo公gōng司sī工gōng作zuò。 

He's Xiao Wang. He works at a computer company.

上shàng个ge星xīng期qī六liù， 他tā请qǐng我wǒ吃chī饭fàn了le。 

Last Saturday, he treated me to dinner.

今jīn天tiān星xīng期qī六liù， 我wǒ请qǐng他tā吃chī面miàn条tiáo儿r！ 

Today is Saturday. I'm treating him to noodles!

晚wǎn上shang， 我wǒ们men还hái去qù唱chàng歌gē。 

In the evening, we're also going singing.

早zǎo上shang， 我wǒ在zài家jiā学xué唱chàng中Zhōng国guó歌gē。 

In the morning, I practiced a Chinese song at home.

我wǒ学xué的de歌gē很hěn好hǎo听tīng， 很hěn多duō中Zhōng国guó人rén都dōu会huì唱chàng。 

The song I learned is lovely. Lots of Chinese people can sing it.

我wǒ唱chàng了le一yí个ge小xiǎo时shí！ 

I sang it for an hour!

中zhōng午wǔ， 我wǒ们men去qù了le我wǒ家jiā外wài边bian的de小xiǎo饭fàn店diàn。 

At noon, we went to the little restaurant near my place.

饭fàn店diàn的de人rén看kàn见jiàn我wǒ， 说shuō：“ 是shì你nǐ！” 

The restaurant man saw me and said, "It's you!"

“ 中zhōng午wǔ来lái吃chī面miàn条tiáo儿r了le！” 

"You came for noodles at noon!"

小Xiǎo王Wáng问wèn：“ 他tā认rèn识shi你nǐ？” 

Xiao Wang asked, "He knows you?"

饭fàn店diàn的de人rén和hé他tā说shuō：“ 他tā天tiān天tiān早zǎo上shang买mǎi包bāo子zi！” 

The restaurant man told him, "He buys baozi every morning!"

我wǒ说shuō：“ 有yǒu一yì天tiān， 我wǒ在zài这zhè儿r没méi有yǒu给gěi钱qián。” 

I said, "One day, I didn't pay here."

小Xiǎo王Wáng问wèn：“ 没méi有yǒu给gěi钱qián？” 

Xiao Wang asked, "You didn't pay?"

我wǒ说shuō：“ 手shǒu机jī没méi有yǒu电diàn了le！ 今jīn天tiān有yǒu电diàn！” 

I said, "My phone was dead! Today it's charged!"

他tā说shuō：“ 十shí二èr块kuài？ 很hěn便pián宜yi！” 

He said, "Twelve kuai? That's cheap!"

我wǒ们men吃chī了le面miàn条tiáo儿r， 二èr十shí四sì块kuài， 我wǒ给gěi了le钱qián。 

We had noodles. Twenty-four kuai. I paid.

我wǒ说shuō：“ 晚wǎn上shang唱chàng歌gē， 也yě是shì我wǒ请qǐng！” 

I said, "Tonight's singing is on me too!"

“ 早zǎo上shang， 我wǒ在zài家jiā学xué唱chàng中Zhōng国guó歌gē了le！” 

"I practiced a Chinese song at home this morning!"

晚wǎn上shang， 我wǒ们men去qù唱chàng歌gē， 那nà儿r有yǒu很hěn多duō小xiǎo房fáng间jiān。 

In the evening, we went singing. There were lots of little rooms.

他tā公gōng司sī的de两liǎng个ge朋péng友you也yě来lái了le， 一yì男nán一yì女nǚ。 

Two friends from his company came too, a man and a woman.

一yí个ge朋péng友you说shuō：“ Kevin ， 你nǐ来lái了le！” 

One of them said, "Kevin, you're here!"

Kevin ？ 他tā们men在zài看kàn我wǒ的de朋péng友you…… 

Kevin? They were looking at my friend...

小Xiǎo王Wáng说shuō：“ 是shì我wǒ。 在zài公gōng司sī， 我wǒ叫jiàoKevin 。” 

Xiao Wang said, "It's me. At work, I'm Kevin."

我wǒ说shuō：“ 小Xiǎo王Wáng是shìKevin …… 那nà我wǒ呢ne？” 

I said, "Xiao Wang is Kevin... so what about me?"

他tā们men问wèn：“ Mike ， 你nǐ有yǒu中Zhōng文wén名míng字zi吗ma？” 

They asked, "Mike, do you have a Chinese name?"

我wǒ说shuō：“ 没méi有yǒu。” 

I said, "No."

小Xiǎo王Wáng说shuō：“ 他tā天tiān天tiān吃chī包bāo子zi！” 

Xiao Wang said, "He eats baozi every day!"

女nǚ的de朋péng友you说shuō：“ 那nà叫jiào‘ 包bāo子zi’ 吧ba！” 

The woman said, "Then call him 'Baozi'!"

我wǒ说shuō：“ 不bú要yào！ 我wǒ的de猫māo叫jiào面miàn包bāo， 我wǒ不bú叫jiào包bāo子zi！” 

I said, "No way! My cat is called Bread. I'm not called Baozi!"

小Xiǎo王Wáng说shuō：“ 叫jiào‘ 麦Mài克kè’ 吧ba。 你nǐ听tīng： Mike ， 麦Mài克kè！” 

Xiao Wang said, "How about Màikè? Listen: Mike, Màikè!"

麦Mài克kè！ 我wǒ不bú是shì包bāo子zi了le！ 

Màikè! I'm not a baozi anymore!

他tā们men两liǎng个ge人rén很hěn喜xǐ欢huan唱chàng歌gē， 也yě很hěn会huì唱chàng。 

The two of them love singing, and they're good at it.

他tā们men唱chàng了le很hěn多duō歌gē。 

They sang lots of songs.

她tā说shuō：“ 你nǐ也yě唱chàng中Zhōng国guó歌gē吧ba！” 

She said, "You sing a Chinese song too!"

她tā找zhǎo了le中Zhōng国guó歌gē， 和hé小Xiǎo王Wáng说shuō：“ 他tā不bú会huì唱chàng吧ba？” 

She picked a Chinese song and said to Xiao Wang, "He can't sing this, can he?"

我wǒ看kàn了le一yí下xià…… 是shì我wǒ早zǎo上shang学xué的de歌gē！ 

I took a look... it was the song I learned this morning!

我wǒ唱chàng了le。 他tā们men都dōu不bù说shuō话huà了le。 

I sang it. They all went quiet.

我wǒ唱chàng了le五wǔ分fēn钟zhōng， 他tā们men听tīng了le五wǔ分fēn钟zhōng。 

I sang for five minutes, and they listened for five minutes.

小Xiǎo王Wáng说shuō：“ 我wǒ知zhī道dào！ 他tā在zài家jiā学xué了le！” 

Xiao Wang said, "I know! He learned it at home!"

我wǒ和hé她tā说shuō：“ 他tā不bú会huì唱chàng吧ba？” 

I said to her, "He can't sing it, can he?"

他tā们men说shuō：“ 再zài唱chàng一yí个ge！” 

They said, "Sing another one!"

我wǒ说shuō：“ 没méi有yǒu了le！ 我wǒ早zǎo上shang学xué了le一yí个ge！” 

I said, "That's all! I only learned one this morning!"

晚wǎn上shang十shí一yī点diǎn， 我wǒ给gěi了le钱qián， 我wǒ们men说shuō再zài见jiàn。 

At eleven, I paid, and we said goodbye.

他tā说shuō：“ 下xià个ge星xīng期qī天tiān， 来lái我wǒ家jiā吃chī饭fàn吧ba。” 

He said, "Sunday next week, come to my family's place for dinner."

“ 我wǒ妈mā妈ma很hěn想xiǎng认rèn识shi你nǐ。” 

"My mom really wants to meet you."

我wǒ说shuō：“ 好hǎo！ 我wǒ去qù！” 

I said, "OK! I'll come!"

他tā说shuō：“ 我wǒ妈mā妈ma…… 问wèn题tí很hěn多duō。” 

He said, "My mom... asks a lot of questions."

“ 她tā现xiàn在zài也yě问wèn：‘ 你nǐ的de朋péng友you有yǒu女nǚ朋péng友you吗ma？’” 

"Now she also asks, 'Does your friend have a girlfriend?'"

我wǒ说shuō：“ 没méi问wèn题tí！ 我wǒ来lái说shuō！” 

I said, "No problem! I'll do the talking!"

回huí家jiā的de时shí候hou， 我wǒ想xiǎng： 他tā妈mā妈ma会huì问wèn我wǒ什shén么me？ 

On the way home, I wondered: what will his mom ask me?
